Sophomore Kaitlin Bond recorded seven saves in goal for the Dragons

Philadelphia, Pa. — Old Dominion junior Lisa McKenzie scored the only goal needed to give the Lady Monarchs their first Colonial Athletic Association victory, Sunday afternoon when they defeated Drexel, 1-0. The Dragons fall to 3-5-1 (0-2 CAA) while Old Dominion improves to 9-1 (1-1 CAA).
After a scoreless first half and a 30 minute lightning delay at halftime, the Lady Monarchs attacked and McKenzie's shot found the back of the net 46 seconds into the second period.
Drexel created opportunities to score immediately following Old Dominion's goal, when junior #Kelly McNamara# and senior #Erin Williams# both had headers that nearly got beyond Lady Monarch goalkeeper, Colby Owen. McNamara took three shots, two of which were on goal and junior #Aleka Yiantsos# also recorded two shots in the match and freshman #Heatherrae Steadman# took one.
Drexel's #Kaitlin Bond# finished with seven saves in goal and Owen tallied two stops for the Lady Monarchs. For the game, Old Dominion outshot Drexel, 15-7, and edged the Dragons in corner kicks, 5-2.
The Dragons will travel to James Madison for another Colonial Athletic Association contest at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29.
