Philadelphia – Georgia State (8-6, 3-4 CAA) scored two goals in the second half to defeat Drexel (4-7-3, 0-5-2 CAA), 2-0, in women's soccer action at Vidas Field.
The Panthers got on the board in the 61st minute to take the lead. Nathalie Carter took a long feed from Khrystal Raymond that went over the top of the Drexel defense. Carter poked it past Drexel goalkeeper Kaitlin Bond (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield).
Just prior to the Panthers goal, Drexel had a good chance to break the tie. Caley Burke (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) fired a shot as she received a pass down the left side just inside the box. Georgia State keeper Heidi Blankenship made the save to thwart Drexel's scoring attempt.
The Panthers added an insurance goal with 12:41 to play. One of Georgia State's players was taken down in the box and the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick. Kristen McKillop took the kick and fired a shot into the upper right corner of the net to make it a 2-0 game.
The teams played evenly during the first half, with the Panthers outshooting the Dragons, 6-5. The final shot total in the game favored the Panthers, 15-13.
The Dragons face UNC Wilmington in a home conference match on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons and Seahawks kick off at 1 p.m. at Vidas Field.
