McNamara's Goal Gives Women's Soccer a Tie vs. James Madison
10/5/2007 10:26:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Philadelphia – Drexel senior Kelly McNamara (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) scored off a James Madison turnover with just over 12 minutes to play to give the Dragons a 1-1 tie with the Dukes.
McNamara stole an errant pass that was sent back towards the Dukes' (9-1-1, 2-0-1 CAA) goal from the corner and beat the keeper to the ball and forced it home to tie the score. The tie kept the Dragons unbeaten (3-0-1) in four matches at Vidas Field this year. Drexel is now 4-4-2 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play.
James Madison scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 58th minute. The Dukes were awarded a penalty kick when a ball hit a Drexel player in the box. Annie Lowry took the kick for the Dukes and put it past Drexel goalkeeper Kaitlin Bond (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) into the lower left corner of the net.
Drexel had the best scoring chance in the first overtime period when Michelle McKinley's (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) shot went just wide after receiving a long feed over the top of the defense. The Dragons had three shots in the first overtime period.
James Madison outshot the Dragons, 24-6, but Bond kept the Dragons in the game with a season-best 12 saves. Missy Reimert had one save for JMU.
The Dragons return to action on Sunday, when they host Virginia Commonwealth at 1 p.m. at Vidas Field.
