Philadelphia, Pa. – Freshman Daria Bialik (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) blasted a slicing shot from 18 yards out that found its way into the upper left corner of the net to give Drexel a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute against Wagner. The Dragons' defense and keeper Kaitlin Bond (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) would make the lead stand up to extend Drexel's unbeaten streak to four games. The Dragons improved to 4-2-1 on the season while Wagner drops to 1-5-1.
In goal for Drexel, Bond made four saves to earn her fourth straight shutout. Bond earned the blanking with three minutes left in the match when Wagner's Brianna Vassallo found some space in traffic in the goal box. Vasallo blasted one shot from about eight yards out that Bond dove to block. Vasallo collected the rebound and teed up another one, but Bond reached up from the ground to deflect it away from the goal. It has now been more than 424 minutes since the junior net-minder has allowed a goal.
Drexel dominated play in the first half, outshooting Wagner 6-0 and outcornering the Seahawks 6-1. On the match Drexel took Wagner in both shots (11-4) and corner kicks (8-2). Sam Schueschner made three stops in net for the Seahawks.
Bialik's goal was the first of her collegiate career. Sophomore Carly Snyder set up the score for her first assist of the season.
The Dragons open conference play with a trip to William & Mary next weekend. The Friday, Sept. 28 match is slated for a 7:00 p.m.
