Dragons Close CAA Duals with Pair of Wins

Fairfax, Va. - The Drexel wrestling team rebounded from a loss to No. 22 Old Dominion to earn two wins in the final day of the CAA Duals hosted by George Mason. The Dragons defeated Campbell, 38-7, then topped Sacred Heart, 32-9. The victories improved the Dragons' record to 8-7 on the season.

Drexel earned bonus points in seven of its eight wins against Campbell. Steve Mytych opened the match with an 18-5 major decision win at 125 pounds before John McDermott earned four match points of his own with a major decision victory at 133 pounds. Ryan Hluschak pinned Jake Fose at 2:19 while Billy Haydt won by fall at 5:57 of his match with Chris Mazzatta. At 174 pounds, Scott Hunter won by technical fall over Matthew Hawksworth. Justin Wieller won by major decision at 184 pounds while Kyle Frey pinned Rob Yoder at 4:39.

Against Sacred Heart, McDermott notched his first win by fall of the season as he pinned Pat Feely at 3:18. Hluschak and Haydt each earned wins by major decision while Lewis Baker, Hunter, Wieller and Frey all earned the Dragons three points apiece with wins by decision.

The Dragons return to the mat Jan. 25 with a trip to Providence, R.I. as Drexel will take on Brown and Boston University.
