Richmond, Va.—VCU got a goal in the 60th minute and held on to defeat Drexel, 1-0. Drexel had two good chances to tie the game in the final minutes, but the Rams' goalkeeper was able to make a pair of saves to thwart the Dragons' comeback.
VCU goalkeeper Kali Van Covern, who had five saves, stopped a shot from Carly Snyder after the Rams were called for a delay of the game. Drexel's Carly Snyder took the free kick from the top of the box but was denied by Van Covern. She also made a save on Jenna Lindsay in the 88th minute as the Rams improved to 7-5-1 and 3-1-1 in the CAA. Drexel fell to 5-8 and 0-5 in league play.
The Rams scored their only goal when sophomore Laurel Pastor scored on a corner kick from Megan Flanagan. It was one of 17 shots for the Rams.
Drexel will look for its first CAA win on Sunday at James Madison.
