10/3/2008 9:51:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Drexel could not rebound from a two-goal deficit as Old Dominion (9-2, 2-1 CAA) defeated the Dragons (5-6, 0-3).
Drexel mounted a late rally after withstanding Old Dominion controlling the game early. Jenna Lindsay stole an attempted clear and fired a shot from inside the box over Old Dominion keeper Lauren Tupman for Drexel's only goal in the 66th minute. It was the eighth goal of the year for the freshman. The Dragons had the ball in the ODU end for a good portion of the final minutes. Drexel had four corner kicks in one possession, but the Lady Monarchs defense kept the Dragons off the board.
ODU scored a pair of goals in the first half. Shavon Knight got the Lady Monarchs on the board in the 20th minute. She took a cross from Janna Pearson on the doorstep and converted. Katie Watson also had an assist on the play. Just eight minutes later ODU scored again as Watson beat Drexel goalkeeper Kaitlin Bond.
Old Dominion outshot Drexel, 21-8. The Dragons had five corners, while ODU had four. Bond picked up seven saves, including five in the second half. Drexel will look for its first conference win on Sunday when William & Mary visits Vidas Field at 1 p.m.
