Philadelphia – Drexel freshman Jenna Lindsay scored the game's only goal late in the second half to give the Dragons a 1-0 victory against Rider on Friday night at Vidas Field. With the win, the Dragons improved to 2-0 and have yet to allow a goal this season.
Drexel controlled most of the play in the second half and got on the board just under 18 minutes to play in the game. Lindsay put home a rebound of a Michelle Donnelly shot that hit the post for her second goal in as many games to give the Dragons the lead. The Dragons outshot the Broncs, 12-3, in the final 45 minutes.
Each team had chances to score in the second half. In the game's 54th minute, Lindsay broke past the Rider defense on the left side and fired a shot on goal which was turned aside by Rider keeper Alex Post. Five minutes later, she had another golden opportunity when she deflected a cross from Aleka Yiantsos just over the net. In the 70th minute, Rider's Kate Murphy had a shot from right in front of Drexel keeper Kaitlin Bond, but her shot went over the net.
Bond recorded her second straight shutout to start the season. She made one save in recording her 16th career shutout. Bond and the defense shut out Iona last week in the season opener.
The Dragons are off until next Friday, when they visit Fairleigh Dickinson.
