Drexel fell behind early and its comeback bid came up short as Fairleigh Dickinson handed the Dragons their first loss of the season, 3-1. Drexel senior Aleka Yiantsos picked up an assist on the Dragons' first goal and with the point became the school's all-time leading scorer.
Drexel (2-1) fell behind 2-0 in the game's first 16 minutes. Fairleigh Dickinson's Rashidah Sherman, who scored three goals in the game, got the Knights (3-1) on the board just 14 seconds into the contest. It was the first goal that Drexel and goalkeeper Kaitlin Bond have given up this season. Sherman added another goal in the 16th minute as the Knights went to intermission with a two-goal lead. FDU outshot Drexel in the first half, 8-2. Sherman completed the hat trick with an insurance goal in the game's 67th minute.
Drexel freshman Jenna Lindsay cut the Knights' lead in half when she scored in the opening minutes of the second half. Lindsay converted a pass from Aleka Yiantsos and found to make it a 2-1 game. Yiantsos, who redshirted last season due to a knee injury, picked up her 43rd career point on the play. That moved her past former teammate Katie Kane and into first place on the Drexel career scoring list. She now holds the career records at Drexel for both points and assists and is fifth in career goals.
Lindsay continued her impressive play early in the season. The Thorofare, N.J. native has scored a goal in each of Drexel's three games and already has seven points.
The Knights outshot Drexel, 12-6. Bond came up with five saves in the loss for the Dragons. Drexel returns to Vidas Field in search of its third straight home win on Sunday afternoon against the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
