Caley Burke, Jenna Lindsay and Carly Snyder each scored goals as Drexel stayed unbeaten at home with a 3-0 victory against the New Jersey Institute of Technology. With the win, Drexel improved to 3-1 on the year and posted its third shutout of the season, while the Highlanders dropped to 0-5.
Drexel got on the board in the game's 18th minute. Carly Snyder took a corner kick for the Dragons and set up Caley Burke, who headed the ball off the Highlanders' goalkeeper and into the net. Drexel had numerous chances in the first half and outsthot New Jersey Tech, 13-0, in the first 45 minutes. NJIT goalkeeper Sadie Mele made four saves in the first half, including a pair from right in front of the net to help keep her team in the game.
In the second half, Lindsay broke in alone on the right side after receiving a perfect feed from Daria Bialik. She blasted the shot to the left of the keeper for her fourth goal of the season. With that goal, she became the first freshman in Drexel history to score a goal in each of her first four games. Less than eight minutes later, Snyder picked up a deflection near the top of the box, dribbled past a defender and scored to give the Dragons a three goal lead.
The Dragons controlled play for almost the entire game. They outshot the Highlanders 24-2 in the contest. Kaitlin Bond played the first 59 minutes in goal for the Dragons saved the only shot she faced. Nicole Sinclair came in for Bond for the first time this season and played the final 31 minutes.
The Dragons are off until Friday afternoon when they face North Dakota in their first game at Niagara's tournament in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
