Dragons Down William & Mary for Fifth-Straight Win

Philadelphia, Pa. – Jamie Harris tied a career-high with 16 points as Drexel defeated William & Mary, 62-49, in front of a crowd of 2,432 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. It was the fifth straight win for the Dragons, who improved their record to 6-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play and 10-8 overall.
Willam & Mary (6-13, 1-8) jumped out to an early six-point lead, but the Drexel defense held the Tribe to just one field goal in the final five minutes of the first half. Drexel went on a 14-1 run, capped by a Gerald Colds three-pointer with 1:31 left in the half to make it a 33-22 Dragons' lead. William & Mary's David Schneider hit a three-pointer with just under a minute left to cut the Dragons' lead to 33-25 at intermission. The Tribe made five of its 10 long-range attempts in the first half.
The Tribe scored the first five points of the second half to cut the deficit to three, but that was as close as they got. Drexel stretched the lead to 10 midway through the second half. Leon Spencer slammed home a feed from Harris and less than a minute later, Harris knocked down a short jumper as the shot clock expired, to make it 42-39.
Spencer came off the bench to score 12 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the floor. The junior also had six rebounds and a pair of blocks. Scott Rodgers also reached double figures with 10 points for the Dragons. The senior led the team with seven rebounds and also had six assists, three steals and a pair of blocks. Drexel tied a season-high with 17 assists and also drained seven three-pointers, also tying its season-high. Hawthorne also had six assists and made a pair of three-pointers.
Schneider led the Tribe with 17 points. Quinn McDowell added 10 points and a team-high five rebounds. William & Mary shot just 32 percent in the second half and 36 percent for the game.
The Dragons will try for their sixth-straight victory on Wednesday night, when Georgia State pays a visit to the DAC. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
