Men's Basketball Rattles Off Sixth Straight Win With 64-47 Victory Against Georgia State

Philadelphia, Pa. – Drexel raced out to a 15-point halftime lead and went on to a 64-47 win against Georgia State. The Dragons (11-8, 7-3) grabbed a season-high 24 offensive rebounds as they picked up their sixth straight win.
Drexel led by as many as 23 points in the second half and cruised to its second win against the Panthers (5-16, 3-7 CAA) during its winning streak. The Dragons made 16 of their 17 free throws in the second half to keep the game out of reach. Scott Rodgers led the way with 17 points. He struggled from the floor but was 10-or-11 from the line and did not commit a turnover in 36 minutes. Leon Spencer came off the bench to score 12 points. He was 6-for-6 from the line and made all three of his shots from the floor. Tramayne Hawthorne added 10 points and three steals.
Both teams started off slow from the floor in the first half. Drexel trailed 10-9, but went on an 11-0 run and held the Panthers without a point for more than eight and a half minutes. Georgia State broke the drought with a James Field jumper, but the Dragons scored the next eight points. They went into halftime with a 30-15 lead. Jamie Harris had all nine of his points in the first half and made three three-pointers.
The Dragons shot just 30 percent in the game but still managed to control the game in large part to their work on the glass. They had 26 second-chance points off the 24 offensive rebounds. Overall, Drexel outrebounded Georgia State, 46-25. Drexel shot 88 percent from the line (21-24), the fifth straight game the team has made at least 70- percent of its free throws.
The Dragons will look for their seventh straight victory on Saturday, when they travel to Maryland to take on Towson. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. and the game can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet.
