The Drexel men's basketball team is in Richmond, where it will face VCU in a critical Colonial Athletic Association game on Tuesday night. The Dragons enter the contest at 10-5 in CAA play, while the Rams are just a game behind Drexel at 9-6. The game can be seen live on The Comcast Network.
Drexel is just two games behind Northeastern and Old Dominion with three league games left to play. The Dragons are tied for fourth with William & Mary, one game behind George Mason in the crowded top half of the CAA. The top four teams in the CAA receive a bye in the upcoming CAA Tournament in Richmond, which begins on March 5.
VCU leads the series, 9-6, and won six in a row against the Dragons before Drexel knocked off the Rams in Philadelphia earlier this season, 75-72. Gerald Colds and Rookie of the Year candidate Chris Fouch each had 19 points to lead the Drexel offense. Brandon Burgess poured in 30 points in a losing cause for VCU.
The Dragons have won six of their last eight games and are now 15-12 overall, matching their win total from last season. VCU has a two-game losing streak. The Rams had won four in a row, before falling at Mason on Tuesday and getting upset at James Madison on Saturday.
Jamie Harris, a CAA Player of the Year candidate, leads the Dragons with 14.7 points per game and is shooting .820 from the free throw line. Fouch, who averages 10.7 points per game and 12.1 points in conference games, will be out for the second straight game due to a shoulder injury.
The Rams are led by Larry Sanders, a junior who averages 14.9 points and nine rebounds per contest. He also leads the team with 56 blocks. VCU has six players who average at least seven points and the Rams lead the CAA in scoring, with 76.6 points per game. VCU is 13-1 at home this year and is 133-23 since they opened the Siegel Center back in 1999.
