Philadelphia - The Dragons are back at home on Vidas Field this Saturday after suffering a difficult 4-0 loss to Northeastern in Boston on Wednesday. Drexel will host the Dukes of James Madison University at 4:00 p.m. at the Vidas Athletic Complex on 43rd and Powelton Ave. looking to bounce back from a series of frustrating matches and put another mark in the win column.
Teams: Drexel (5-7-1, 1-4-1) vs. James Madison (7-4-2, 2-3-1)
Venue: Vidas Field, Philadelphia, Pa.
All-Time Series: James Madison leads 4-1-2
Last Meeting: Drexel battled back from a 1-0 deficit in the first half when Anthony Bafile found his third goal of the season to send the teams into the half tied. In the 76th minute, Nick Zimmerman put the Dukes back on top when he successfully converted a penalty kick against Drexel keeper Cory Robertson. With relentless shooting from both sides, the Dragons found their equalizer when Max Crockett cleaned up a rebound and sent home the tying goal with under three minutes in regulation. Two overtime periods would ensue with the match ending in a draw. James Madison outshot Drexel by a narrow margin of 26-22. Robertson made a career high 11 saves in the contest to keep the Dragons alive on the road.
Entering the Game: Drexel traveled north to Boston where they were held off the board through 90 minutes on Wednesday afternoon by Northeastern. Scott Partridge made three saves for the Huskies as he recorded his third straight shutout this season and his fifth in conference play. Drexel keeper Tres Heffron made seven stops before he was relieved in the final 11 minutes by Tim Washam. Northeastern found goals from four different players. Mike Kennedy scored the final goal and assisted on the first two, Andre Ciliotta provided the second mark and assisted on the closer by Kennedy, Don Anding put in the third goal and Nick Lueders opened with the first goal less than five minutes into play. The Dragons were out shot 21-13 and out cornered 10-2. Senior Fabio Assumpcao had four of the 13 shots for the Dragons but was unable to convert on any attempt.
Players to Watch: Senior Greg Ermold leads the Dragons in the back line with his dominance in the air. Ermold shows poise and timing on the field as he denies any opponents' advance through the air in Drexel's defensive third. As one of two players on the Dragons squad to start all 13 matches this season, Ermold's size and talent help to lead the team in quick counter attacks and offensive set pieces.
Junior forward CJ Sapong leads the Dukes both in goals and assists with six and five respectively. Sapong has a knack for finding the net when most needed as he sits tied for second in the CAA for game winning goals with three. Also, junior goalie Ken Manahan has six shutouts this season, the second most in CAA. He will be looking to add to his record tonight at Vidas Field.
Up Next: Drexel remains at home next week as the Dragons play host to the Patriots of George Mason on Tuesday, October 27th. The match starts with a 7:00 p.m. tap.
