Philadelphia – Drexel's Katie Duncan scored on a penalty kick in the 76th minute as the Dragons shut out Georgia State, 1-0, at Vidas Field.
Drexel played a strong second half and made its effort pay off when Alex Vazquez was taken down in the box, which gave the Dragons the penalty kick opportunity. .Duncan took the kick and placed it in the top left corner, over Georgia State's Heidi Blankenship. That turned out to be the only goal of the match.
Georgia State had its best chances early in the second half. Carly Lafferty took a cross and one timed it at the cage, but Drexel's Nicole Sinclair made the save to keep the game scoreless. It was one of just two saves Sinclair was forced to make as the Drexel defense played one of its best matches of the season.
The teams played an even first half without any scoring. Each team had five shot. Georgia State's Blankenship made three stops in the first 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless
Drexel outshot the Panthers, 16-8, including an 11-3 margin in the second half. The match marked the final home appearance for Drexel seniors Jackie Barrett, Caley Burke, Alicia Jiulianti and Carly Snyder. Drexel closes out the 2009 season on Friday night at Delaware.
