Nacickaite scored a career-high 19 points and hit five three-pointers
Marginean and Nacickaite Lead Dragons to 56-42 Win Over Penn

Philadelphia - Sophomore guard Kamile Nacickaite poured in a career-high 19 points, including five three-pointers and Gabriela Marginean recorded her 22nd career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Drexel (1-1) in a 56-42 victory over city rival Penn (0-1). Nacicakite made just the second start of her young career and responded by shooting 6-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-9 from deep, including two key treys during a 14-3 Drexel run that put the game out of reach for Penn. The Dragons never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 19 in their first win of the 2009-10 season. Sarah Bucar led Penn with 10 points and three assists while playing the full 40 minutes.
The Dragons shot just 34.9 percent from the floor, but worked hard on the boards, outrebounding Penn 45-34 and 17-10 on the offensive glass. The Quakers shot 30.6 percent from the field and 1-for-9 from distance. Marginean turned in a solid all-around performance in addition to her scoring and rebounding totals she also dished out a career-high four assists to lead the team. The senior forward is now just three points shy of breaking Drexel's career scoring record, she has 1898 points heading into next Friday's game at Richmond.
While the Dragons never surrendered their lead in the contest, the Quakers manage to stay within striking distance for much of the first half and trailed just 27-20 at the break despite shooting an icy 29.6 percent. Marginean's 11 points and nine boards led the Dragons into the locker room.
Nacickaite would help her team pull away early in the second half when she hit a jumper in the lane and, following a Marginean layup, canned two three-pointers from the wing in front of the Drexel bench. Tyler Hale knocked down two shots to give Drexel a 41-24 lead at the 13:29 mark in the period A Hollie Mershon jumper would push that advantage to 19 points with just under eight minutes left to play.
Head Coach Denise Dillon received contributions from every available player on the Drexel bench in the contest. Sophomore forward Ayana Lee scored a career-high six points, all in the first half, to go with three rebounds and a steal in 12 minutes of play. Rookie forward Taylor Wootton swatted two shots to lead the Dragons defensive efforts in the post. Freshman guard Renee Johnson-Allen saw her first collegiate minutes and chipped in a pair of assists without a turnover in 12 minutes running the point.
Maginean will take aim at the Drexel scoring record when the Dragons travel to play Richmond next Friday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
