Philadelphia - Drexel women's basketball will travel to Saint Joseph's for the ninth installment of its city rivalry with the Hawks on Sunday, Dec. 13. The Dragons (3-3) have won two of their last three against the Hawks (3-6) and are looking to bounce back from a tough loss to La Salle at home last Saturday with the teams tip it up at 2:00 p.m. at the Micheal J. Hagan Arena.
Senior Gabriela Marginean led all scorers with 21 points in Drexel's 68-57 loss to La Salle on Dec. 5. She knocked down seven of eight free throws to move into first place on the CAA's all-time list. She is now just 16 points shy of becoming the first female basketball player in Drexel history to score 2,000 points. The Dragons defeated Saint Joseph's at the DAC last season, but Saint Joseph's leads the all-time series 6-2. Head Coach Denise Dillon is going after her 100th career win in the contest as she was thwarted in her first attempt at the century mark last Saturday.
The Hawks are coming off a 56-42 loss to Villanova on Wednesday in a hard-fought Big 5 contest. Brittany Ford, Mariame Djouara and Amy Gillespie scored 10 points apiece in the contest. But the Hawks' 29 percent shooting from the floor and a second-half run by Villanova proved to be too much to overcome. Senior forward Ashley Logue, the team's top rebounder, returned to the floor for the first time in four games after suffering a head injury. Brittany Ford is leading the team in scoring, averaging 10.8 points per game.
