
Late Tip-In Sends Rhode Island Past Drexel, 80-79

Philadelphia, Pa. – Rhode Island's Lamonte Ulmer's tip-in with 1.7 seconds left in the game to give the Rams an 80-79 victory over Drexel at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Drexel dropped to 6-7 on the season while the Rams improved to 10-1.
The Dragons trailed by as many as seven early in the second half, but chipped away at the Rams' lead. With URI ahead 63-60, freshman Chris Fouch nailed a three-pointer and was fouled by Akeem Richmond. Fouch made the free throw which started a 10-1 Drexel run. The Dragons retained the lead until the final second. Drexel led 79-76 with 33 seconds remaining, but Kenny Tribbett missed the front end of a one and one and URI got possession. URI's Keith Cothran, who led all scorers with 28 points, hit a jumper with 17 seconds left to make it a one-point game. After a timeout, Drexel committed a turnover attempting to inbound the ball, giving URI a chance to win the game. Cothran missed a jumper and after the ball was tipped around, Ulmer grabbed the board and gave the Rams their fifth-straight win.
Drexel played a solid second half on the defensive end, allowing the Rams to shooot just 36 percent from the floor. The first half was played at a frenetic pace. Each team had 19 field goals in the first half as the Rams led 48-44 at the break.
Fouch came off the bench to score a career-high 23 points. He was 4-for-7 from deep and also had three steals. Junior Jamie Harris added 17 points and five assists without a turnover. Cothran finished 10-for-16 from the floor and was perfect in all six of his free throw attempts. Ulmer had a double-double for URI with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Drexel returns to CAA action on Saturday afternoon at arch-rival Delaware. The Dragons and Blue Hens tip-off at 2 p.m. on The Comcast Network.
