Delaware Rallies to Defeat Men's Basketball, 62-58

Newark, Del. – Delaware rallied from a 13-point first-half deficit to defeat Drexel, 62-58, in a Colonial Athletic Association game at the Carpenter Center. The Blue Hens opened the second half with a 25-4 run and held off a late Drexel rally.
The Dragons (6-8, 1-1), who trailed by as many as 14 in the second half after being held without a bucket for a stretch of 6:40 in the second half, made a late run to get back in the game. Drexel cut it to 55-54 on a Jamie Harris three-pointer from the left wing with 2:18 left. Kelvin McNeil made a free-throw to give Delaware a two-point lead, but a Blue Hen (5-8, 1-1) committed a lane violation, negating McNeil's second free throw. On the next possession, Gerald Colds drove to the basket and was fouled. He converted both free throws to tie the score at 56-56. Alphonso Dawson then nailed a free-throw line jumper with 1:16 remaining to put Delaware ahead, 58-56. The Dragons missed a chance to tie, and when Delaware came up with an offensive rebound, Drexel was forced to foul. Jawan Carter made both. Drexel's Chris Fouch made it 60-58 with a driving lay-in from the baseline and Bruiser Flint called timeout. The Dragons fouled Jawan Carter, and the junior made both to ice the game.
Drexel jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead as Jamie Harris had five early points. He ended the half with a team-high 11 points and finished the game with 18. Chris Fouch hit a three-pointer with 2:04 left in the half to give the Dragons their biggest lead at 33-20. The Blue Hens countered by scoring the final six points of the half to make it a seven point game at intermission.
Samme Givens was the only other Dragon in double figures with 10 points. Drexel outrebounded the Blue Hens, 33-29, but shot just 36 percent in the second half. Freshman Daryl McCoy grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds to lead the Dragons. Dawson led four Hens in double figures with 15 points.
Drexel is back in action on Monday at Georgia State. The Dragons return home for their third game in five days on Wednesday against VCU. Tip-off at the DAC is at 7 p.m.
