Box Score
Philadelphia – Drexel freshman Caitlin Gottier scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half and Nicole Sinclair posted her first career shutout as Drexel upset No. 25 Pittsburgh, 1-0, at Vidas Field. The Dragons handed the Panthers (4-1) their first loss of the season.
The Dragons (1-4) and Panthers were locked in a scoreless battle for most of the game. The deadlock was finally broken in the 74th minute. There was a scramble at the top of the box and Pitt keeper Morie Kephart came out to try to get control of the ball. It appeared the ball bounced off her leg, with Kephart falling in the process. Gottier, the Dragons' first-year player from Emmaus, Pa., picked up the loose ball and walked in alone and made her first career goal a game-winner.
Sinclair was outstanding in goal for the Dragons. The sophomore made a career-high nine saves, including three big saves in the final 15 minutes as the Dragons held off a Panthers' flurry. The biggest of the three was a diving save which thwarted Christina Nicassio's scoring attempt.
Pittsburgh outshot the Dragons, 17-8, including an 8-1 margin in the first half. The Panthers also had 11 corner kicks, to just four for Drexel. Kephart made four saves in goal for Pittsburgh, all of which came in the second half.
Drexel will aim for its second-straight win on Sunday at Lafayette.
