No. 11 Drexel to Open Conference Season at Hofstra

The 11th-ranked Drexel Field Hockey team will travel to Hempstead, N.Y. for its first Colonial Athletic Association game of the season as the Dragons face Hofstra on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 1:00 p.m. Coach Denise Zelenak's club has won seven of its eight games so far this season including its last two as the Dragons enter conference action. Hofstra is also riding a two-game winning streak and will enter the contest with a 5-3 overall mark.
Drexel has been led by junior forward Susan Ciufo. The 2008 Third Team All-American has 10 goals and five assists this season. Fellow 2008 First Team All-CAA pick Carolina Gibernau has been solid once again in midfield. The senior has three goals and three assists and broke the school's career assist mark earlier in the season. Christina Mastropaolo has contributed nine goals and four assists this year, including a team-best three game-winning goals.
Hofstra's leading scorer in the 2009 season has been Genna Kovar with five goals. Krizia Layne and Kristin Thompson are tied for the team lead in assists with two. Meredith Golden has taken over as the Pride's starter in goal for the last three games and has given Hofstra a boost. Golden sports a 0.96 goals against average and an .800 save percentage.
