Big Second Half Leads Dragons to 78-57 Win over James Madison

Philadelphia, Pa. – Drexel went on an 11-0 run early in the second half on its way to a 78-57 victory against James Madison at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons scored a season-high 51 second-half points and shot 61 percent in the final 20 minutes to improve their record to 5-3 in CAA play and 10-10. The Dukes dropped to 8-10 overall and 2-6 in the CAA.
James Madison led by two at intermission and increased the lead to five with 17:40 to play before Drexel began its run. Jamie Harris, who led all players with 20 points, hit a three-pointer and Samme Givens nailed a jumper to tie the game at 34-34. Evan Neisler made a pair of free throws to put Drexel up for good.
The Dukes trailed by just six points after a Denzel Bowles lay-in made the score 46-40, but Drexel got the into double figures as Chris Fouch nailed three-pointers on consecutive trips down the court. Later in the half, the Dragons put the game out of reach when Harris scored eight-straight points, including two treys, to give the Dragons an 18-point lead.
The Dragons were 8-for-11 from long range in the second half after making just three of their previous 32 three-point attempts over two games and the first half. Harris was 4-for-5 from deep in the game and 8-for-12 overall. Fouch, who finished with 13 points, all in the second half, was 3-for-4 from behind the arc..
Samme Givens continued his impressive play on the glass, hauling in a game-high 15 rebounds. Leon Spencer, who missed the previous 16 games with an injury, returned and added nine points, seven boards and two blocked shots.
Bowles led JMU with 19 points. Julius Wells chipped in with 13 but was just 1-for-7 from deep and 3-for-13 from overall. He entered the game leading the CAA in three-pointers per game. The Dragons outrebounded the Dukes, 47-25, and handed out a season-high 20 assists.
The Dragons host Hofstra in a CAA contest at 12 p.m. on Saturday in the DAC. The game can be seen live on The Comcast Network.
