Philadelphia - Drexel welcomes Hall of Fame Head Coach Anne Donovan and the Seton Hall Pirates (5-5) to the DAC this weekend for a 2:00 p.m. tip on Sunday. Led by CAA Player of the Week Kamile Nacickaite, the Dragons are looking to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season, 63-54, at Virginia last Saturday. Seton Hall is coming off a 71-52 loss to No. 20 St. John's in its Big East opener on Wednesday. Fans who cannot make it out to the DAC can still follow the game by visiting Drexel Game Central for streaming video and audio broadcasts. Livestats are also available for the game and can be viewed in both adobe flash player and .html formats by smartphone users. Visit www.drexeldragons.com, the Dragons' mobile site, or download the Drexel Sports app to follow the Dragons online.
Sunday's game is the sixth of seven games in Philadelphia for the Dragons and it is the final home contest of the 2010 calendar year. Cozen Court at the DAC has been a haven for the team this season, as the Dragons are a perfect 4-0 on their home court.
Last Saturday the team played its first contest outside of Philadelphia, falling by nine points to ACC power Virginia. Nacickaite led all scorers with 24 points, including six three-pointers. The Dragons made a rally midway through the second half to cut a Virginia lead that had grown to 19 points down to just seven with five minutes remaining. But the Cavaliers would hold on for the victory. Jasmina Rosseel chipped in 11 points and Hollie Mershon came off the bench to score 10 and grab eight rebounds.
Seton Hall is 5-5 on the season under first-year Head Coach Anne Donovan. The Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer is in her second foray into collegiate coaching after leading the U.S. National Team to a gold medal in 2008 and coaching in the WNBA, most recently with the New York Liberty. Donovan was an All-American as a player at Old Dominion and also served as an assistant coach at her alma mater.
The Pirates lost to No. 20 St. John's on Wednesday by 19 points in their first taste of Big East competition this season. Terry Green led Seton Hall with 11 points and shot 3-for-6 from deep. Center Tajay Ashmeade recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Pirates' last win was an overtime affair at William & Mary in which Kandice Green compiled a monstrous double-double with 31 points and 23 rebounds.
Sunday's game is just the second meeting between Drexel and Seton Hall all time. The other meeting came in Drexel's season opener in 1989. The Dragons fell 76-62 on Nov. 25 1989 at the Seton Hall Tournament.
