Dragons Pursue Historic Win in Homestand Finale vs. Tulsa Tonight

Philadelphia - Drexel women's basketball closes out its four-game homestand tonight as the Dragons (4-0)welcome Tulsa (2-2) to the DAC for a 7:00 p.m. tip. Denise Dillon's squad is chasing its fifth straight win to open the season, which would be the best start in the Dragons' Div. I history. The Dragons, who are ranked No. 24 in the most recent CollegeInsider.com mid-major poll, are facing their first opponent from outside of Philadelphia this season. The Dragons are coming off a 56-50 victory over Villanova on Nov. 26 to close out their slate against Philadelphia teams with a 4-0 mark on the season. Jasmina Rosseel led all scorers with 18 points on 6-for-9 three-point shooting. Taylor Wootton matched her career high with 12 points for the second straight game. She also contributed three assists, two steals and a block for the second game in a row. Drexel pulled ahead for good on a pair of mid-range jumpers by Wootton with two and a half minutes to play. Kamile Nacickaite, who finished with 11 points and six rebounds, knocked down four free throws in the final 22 seconds to seal Drexel's first victory over Villanova in the Wildcats' first visit to the DAC.
Tulsa is led by sophomore guard Taleya Mayberry, who is averaging 20.8 ppg through four games this season. The Golden Hurricane is coming off an 83-75 victory over Northern Texas on Nov. 27, the team's second win of the season. Tulsa returns three starters from a team that went 12-16 last year. Head Coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson led the Golden Hurricane to its first conference championship and NCAA apperance in her first year with the team in 2005-06. The team went 26-6 on the season, which was Thomas-Swinson's only winning year at Tulsa.
Tonight's game is the first meeting between Drexel and Tulsa and caps a series of five straight games for the Dragons in Philadelphia.
