Hempstead, N.Y. – Charles Jenkins poured in 32 points to lead Hofstra (13-13, 6-8 CAA) past Drexel (14-12, 9-5), 75-64, in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at the Mack Sports Complex. The game was played in front of a sparse crowd who braved blizzard conditions on Long Island.
The Pride went on a 7-1 run to take an eight-point lead at the close of the first half. Chaz Williams raced the length of the court, beat the buzzer on a drive and was fouled. The freshman converted the free throw to give Hofstra a 35-28 advantage. Charles Jenkins had a huge first half for Hofstra. He scored 16 points and had a pair of steals in the half. Drexel committed an uncharacteristic 12 turnovers in the first half, which led to 12 Hofstra points. The Dragons made just eight field goals in the first half.
Things didn't get much better for the Dragons in the second half. The team struggled from the floor for most of the half. At one point, the Dragons were able to get within nine points at 59-50, but the Pride increased the lead to double digits the rest of the way.
Jamie Harris led the Dragons with 19 points, 16 of which came in the second half. Samme Givens recorded his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Drexel shot just 1-for-9 from behind the arc in the game and 31 percent overall. Hofstra only shot 35 percent from the floor, but made 25 of its 36 free throw attempts.
