Mytych and Booth Both Win Matches Advance to Second Day at 2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships

Omaha, Neb. - Drexel's two representatives at the 2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships each won on the first day of the championships. At 133 pounds, 12th-seeded Steve Mytych earned a 3-2 victory over Brandon Low of UC-Davis while Joe Booth earned a major decision victory over Andrew Sorensen of Iowa State in the consolation bracket at 157 pounds.
Mytych, the Dragons' first wrestler ever to be seeded at an NCAA Championships, picked up the hard-fought victory over Low to advance in the championship bracket. The senior nearly stunned fifth-seeded Borislav Novachkov of Cal-Poly but was defeated in the first overtime tiebreaker, 4-1. Mytych will continue his quest to place eighth or better at attain All-American status by facing Kevin Smith of Buffalo who defeated Jimmy Kirschner of Rider in the first round of consolations.
Booth faced a tough task as he drew third-seeded Jesse Dong of Virginia Tech in the first round. Dong pinned Booth at 2:53 as the freshman was sent to the consolation bracket. Booth rebounded to earn his convincing major decision victory over Sorensen in his first consolation match. He will now face ninth-seeded Matt Moley of Bloomsburg in a second-round consolation bout.
