Varsity Eights Travel to San Diego for First Regatta of the Spring Season

San Diego, Calif. - Drexel Director of Rowing Paul Savell is taking his top varsity men's and women's eight to the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic to kick off the Dragons' regatta season. After this weekend's event, the Dragons will compete in a regatta for the next four consecutive weekends before the Dad Vail Regatta in May. The men's will begin their racing in San Diego on Saturday, March 27 at 7:50 a.m. while the women's race at 8:10 a.m. Pacific.
The Drexel men's varsity eight will be coxed by Randall Lee with stroke Aleksandar Radovic, Kyle Fabel, Anthony Fittipaldi, Greg Pierce, Brian Timlin, Will Masters, Nick Buyse and bow Jacob Sloan. They will be using a boat on loan from California-Berkeley as they race Georgia Tech, San Diego State, University of British Columbia, Grand Valley and Western Washington in an opening heat. The top two finishers will advance directly to the grand final while the third and fourth-place finishers move to the petite final while the final two to cross the line will race in the third final.
The women's varsity eight will be rowing in the Marlene Buckley with coxswain Cate Khella, stroke Candice Webb, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Mallory Sykes, Juliana DeMarici, Emily Coyle, Casondra Clawson and bow Mary Kain. The women will race against San Diego, San Diego State, Stanford lightweight, Southern Methodist, California-Santa Barbara and Central Oklahoma. The top two finishers will advance directly to the grand final while the third and fourth-place finishers move to the petite final while the final three to cross the line will race in the third final.
