Philadelphia - The 11th-ranked Drexel field hockey team will host Ohio University in a non-conference game on Sunday, Sept. 5 at noon. The game marks just the second time the two teams have met with the only other meeting coming in 2002 when the Dragons defeated the Bobcats, 2-1. Drexel enters the game with a record of 1-1 while Ohio University is 1-2 on the season.
Drexel rebounded from an opening game defeat at the hands of No. 2 Maryland to rout Saint Joseph's, 7-1, on Wednesday. Elizabeth Koch came off the bench to score two goals and register an assist while Susan Ciufo also notched a pair of goals. Kim Tunell recorded four points on a goal and a pair of assists. CAA Preseason Player of the Year Christina Mastropaolo has three points thus far this season as both her and Ciufo march toward the program's career record for goals and points.
Ohio is coming off of a tough 2-1 overtime loss to 14th-ranked Ohio State. The Buckeyes scored with less than five minutes remaining in the first half before the Bobcats answered less than two minutes later. Both goals came on penalty corners. In overtime, Ohio State capitalized on the period's first penalty corner to avoid the Bobcats' upset bid. Taylor Brown is the only Ohio University player with more than one goal on the season; she has four scores in the team's first three games.
