Box Score
Philadelphia - Alex Vazquez scored her first goal of the season for Drexel (1-3), but it was not enough to rally the Dragons from a three-goal deficit in a 4-1 loss to city rival Saint Joseph's (3-0). Jen Pfeiffer recorded a hat trick for the Hawks in the victory.
Saint Joseph's outshot the Dragons 14-9 in the match. Corner kicks were and even 6-6. Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime, Drexel worked to pull itself back into the match, outshooting Saint Joseph's 8-6 in the second half and outcornering the Hawks 5-3 in the period. Unfortunately half of the Hawks' six second-half shots found their way to the back of the net.
Saint Joseph's got on the board just over nine minutes into the contest on a goal by Jen Pfeiffer. Mo Hawkins set up Pfeiffer with a nice pass to the middle of the box where she deposited it in the upper right corner of the goal giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
The pair hooked up again in the second half to give the Hawks at 2-0 lead. The second tally occurred in much the same way as the first, with Hawkins squaring the ball to Pfeiffer in the box for a tally to the upper right corner in the 48th minute.
Hawkins scored one of her own five minutes later when she settled a loose ball of a header and drilled it into the right corner of the net.
Drexel's Alex Vazquez tried to spur a comeback for the Dragons when she capitalized on a defensive break down by Saint Joseph's to make it a 3-1 match in the 60th minute.
Pfeiffer scored her third goal of the match in the 78th minute when she headed in a corner kick taken by Steph Maurer. The header put the game out of reach for the Dragons at 4-1 in the closing minutes.
Nicole Sinclair and Victoria Troccoli split halves in net again for the Dragons with each keeper making two saves. Christine Neal made three saves for the Hawks.
Drexel returns to Vidas Field this Sunday, Sept. 5 for a 3:00 p.m. match against Lafayette.
