Philadelphia – Big East foes Syracuse and Louisville highlight the 2010-11 Drexel men's basketball schedule. In addition, Drexel will make the four block trip to the Palestra to face Penn and host Saint Joseph's in the Daskalakis Athletic Center. It will be the first time the Hawks have played in the DAC since the 1992 season.
Drexel opens the 2010-11 season with three straight road games. The year begins with a trip to Loyola (Md.) on Nov. 12. It is a return game as the Greyhounds played at the DAC two years ago as part of BracketBusters. After playing Penn, Drexel will head to New England to face Atlantic 10-foe Rhode Island. The Rams edged Drexel with a buzzer beater last season in Philadelphia.
The Dragons have their first home game on Nov. 28 when Binghamton comes to town. Drexel will host Saint Joseph's, Rider and Niagara during the month of December. The road schedule in December will be difficult as the Dragons play at Louisville for the first time ever. The Dragons and Cardinals will be playing for the first time since the 1986 NCAA West Regional, when Purvis Ellison's Cardinals defeated Michael Anderson's Dragons on their way to the NCAA Championship. Drexel will then play at St. Francis (Pa.) before heading north to face Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. It will be the school's first meeting since Drexel stunned the No. 23 Orange, 84-79, during the 2006-07 season. The only other non-conference game will be a BracketBusters match-up on Feb. 19.
The Colonial Athletic Association schedule features one game in December, when Drexel visits Northeastern on Dec. 4. The Dragons and Huskies will meet at the TD Banknorth Garden as part of a doubleheader. Boston College will play UMass in the second game. Drexel will play home-and-home games against Delaware, Hofstra, James Madison, Northeastern, Towson, VCU and William & Mary. The Dragons will face Old Dominion and Georgia State at home and visit both UNCW and George Mason.
