Durham, N.C. - The 13th-ranked Drexel field hockey team will go on the road for the first time this season as the Dragons face No. 10 Duke on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 1:00 p.m. Last season the teams squared off at Buckley Field where Drexel posted the biggest comeback in program history as the Dragons erased a 3-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Blue Devils, 4-3, in overtime. Drexel enters the weekend at 2-1 on the season while Duke enters with a 3-1 record overall.
After a season-opening loss to No. 2 Maryland, Drexel rebounded to take its next two games. The Dragons trounced Saint Joseph's, 7-1, before pulling out a 1-0 victory over visiting Ohio University. Elizabeth Koch has two goals and two assists while senior Susan Ciufo has three goals in the past two games. Preseason All-CAA goalie Jenna Phillips made four saves as she recorded her first shutout of the season against the Bobcats. Kim Tunell is tied with Koch and Ciufo for the team lead with six points as the senior midfielder has two goals and two assists thus far this season.
The Blue Devils will play No. 8 Wake Forest one day before their showdown with the Dragons. Duke's lone loss of the season came at No. 7 Michigan State while the Blue Devils boast a pair of wins over ranked teams, both coming in extra time. The Blue Devils pulled out a season-opening 3-2 double overtime win over No. 13 Louisville as well as a 1-0 overtime victory over James Madison in the team's most recent game. The Blue Devils have allowed just one combined goal over their past three games though they have scored just six times in four games this season. Susan Ferger and Mary Nielson each have a pair of goals to lead the Blue Devils in scoring. Samantha Nelson enters the weekend riding a two-game shutout streak.
