Booth and Palik Take Sixth at Cliff Keen in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nev. – Drexel wrestling closed out the 30th Annual Cliff Keen Invitational as junior Joseph Booth and sophomore Brandon Palik both picked up sixth place finishes in the final day of action. The Dragons finished 19th out of of 34 teams with 20 total points. Heading into the day Drexel had three wrestlers still alive with Booth in the semifinals.
Booth lost his semifinal match to one-seed Shane Onufer of Wyoming by a narrow 4-3 margin sending him to face Robert Kokesh of the University of Nebraska and a chance to wrestle for third. Booth fell to Kokesh before slipping in a rematch to Ben Jordan of Wisconsin 0-5; Booth picked up a 3-1 sudden victory over Jordan in the quarter finals. Booth split matches on the weekend going 3-3.
Palik won his first two matches to advance through the consolation bracket with a pin, his second of the season, over John Gusewelle of North Dakota State midway through the second period. Palik then picked up a 7-4 decision over James Fox of Harvard before dropping his last two matches including a rematch from earlier this season against Pittsburgh's Matthew Wilps. Palik went 2-2 on the day and 4-3 overall earning the sixth place finish and a spot on the podium.
Senior Kyle Frey also wrestled this morning for the Dragons but eventually dropped an 8-3 decision to six-seed Brendan Barlow of Kent State. Frey went 2-2 during the tournament and now sits at 8-2 overall for his senior campaign.
The Dragons are back in action when they travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to participate in the Campbell Duals on Wednesday December 14.
