Annapolis, Md. - Rookie Alex Bell picked up her first career victory, playing in just her third collegiate match against a formidable opponent in No. 35 DePaul, but the Dragons fell 6-1 against the Blue Demons to close out a doubleheader at the U.S. Naval Academy on Saturday. The Dragons fall to 2-5 on the season with the loss.
Bell, who had been making big strides after joining the team just before the start of the spring season, broke through with her first win as a Dragon in straight sets over Samantha Kaneta 6-3, 6-4. Earlier in the day, Bell took a set off her opponent from Navy for the first set victory of her young career.
Zeynep Mafa battled in a straight set loss at third singles, falling 7-5 in the first set before dropping the second 6-4 to Christiania Raymona.
The Dragons return to the court against Delaware State on Feb. 26 in the Drexel Armory.
