Drexel finished the game shooting 47.5 percent after a hot-shooting start in the first half. The Dragons edged Towson on the boards 34-32. The victory came on Senior Day at Towson, where Nacickaite's fellow Lithuanian countrywomen Dovile Milaiuskaite and Simona Petronyte were honored prior to their final home game as Tigers.
After shooting nearly 60 percent in the first half, the Dragons made just two baskets in the first 7:45 of play in the second. The scoring drought forced Drexel to rely on its defense to hold off the Tigers.
A Jessica Haywood layup three minutes into the half gave Towson its first lead of the game at 34-32.
Mershon responded for Drexel with a three-pointer that snapped a stretch of nearly six minutes without a bucket by the Dragons. Taylor Wootton knocked down a pair of jumpers in an 8-2 Drexel run that put the Dragons on top 42-36 at the midpoint of the half.
The Dragons converted 5-of-6 from the line over the next five minutes to push the lead to 50-43 with 4:36 to play. Lee dove on the floor and tipped a pass to Rosseel to give the Dragons possession.
That play turned into three points on the other end of the court when Rosseel and Wootton worked a pick and roll and Wootton knocked down the long shot. Her trey gave Drexel a 53-45 lead with 2:35 on the clock.
Lee also drew the unenviable defensive assignment of matching up with the Tigers' speedy guard Krystal Parnell in the last minute of the game as she looked to get to the basket. The decision paid off as Parnell missed a layup with a minute on the clock that allowed the Dragons to put the game away from the line.
Drexel shot a sizzling 57.9 percent in the first half and led by as much as 11 points after opening the game with an 8-0 run. Towson roared back on Senior Day late in the half, using a 12-5 spurt to go into halftime trailing by just one, 29-28.
The Dragons committed 13 turnovers and the Tigers converted them into 14 points. Despite shooting 33.3 percent, Towson was able to draw the game to a dead heat by attempting 11 more shots than the Dragons in the half.
