Drexel Crew Opens 2011 Spring Season on Saturday

Philadelphia - Drexel Crew opens its 2011 spring season on the Cooper River as the Dragons face rivals Delaware and Saint Joseph's on March 12 starting at 11:45 a.m. with the women's varsity four race. The men's varsity four races will follow with the final competition of the eight races scheduled to start at 12:15 p.m. as the men's varsity eight wrap up the action.
The women's varsity four, in the Sheller boat, will begin racing at 11:45 a.m. with coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Jillian Skovran, Kathy Cheng, Chloe Swansen and bow Brogan Piecara competing for Drexel. For the women's second varsity eight, Director of Rowing Paul Savell will send out the Dawn Byers boat with coxswain Cate Khella, stroke Natasha Martines, Elise Panacek, Amanda Dargay, and bow Lillian Reed. Both boats are scheduled to race at the same time.
The men's varsity four, in the LeBow School of Bus., will start at 12:00 p.m. with coxswain Justin Malley, stroke Gregory Pierce, Ernesto Del Valle, Patrick McGann, and bow Pete Eyrich. The women's novice eight, in the Anna Marie, will take the water at 12:15 p.m. with coxswain Dana Piccoli, stroke, Sarah Mackenzie, Colleen Delany, Caitlin Buser, Elizabeth Daugherty, Emily Barth, Alyssa Leahy, Shannon O'Donnell, and bow Jackie Bender.
The women's varsity eight, in the Marlene Buckley, will start at 12:30 p.m. with coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Elizabeth Bratton, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Juliana DeMarici, Kayla Wroblesky, Mallory Sykes, Asiya Mahmud, and stroke Alexa Antonioli. Following them at 12:45 p.m. will be the Dragon's “B”squad in the John Daskalakis boat in the second varsity racing. Coxswain Alex Paulin, stroke Taylor Mondak, Brooke Wertan, Colleen Owens, Megan Bush, Casondra Clawson, Samantha Cowan, Mollie Cusack, and bow Emily Coyle.
The regatta will close with four men's varsity eight competitions starting at 1:00 p.m. First to start is the men's third varsity eight, in the Peggy Greenawalt, with coxswain Justin Malley, stroke, Ernesto Del Valle, Gregory Pierce, Dylan Siegfried, Patrick McGann, Pete Eyrich, Scott Nordsiek, John Luciani, and bow Adam Cordi. Following them at 1:15 p.m. will be the Dragon's “B” squad in the Class of '72 boat with Coxswain Marc Smith, stroke John Pieper, Vanja Busic, Sebastian Ryan, Steven Miner, Ryan McSpedon, Ross Morris, Matthew Ryan, and bow Marcus DeMarici.
The men's varsity eight “A” squad, in the Pennoni boat will also take the water at 1:15 p.m., with coxswain Steven Matyas, stoke Filip Topalovic, Gregg Francis, Kevin Rorabaugh, Michael Golden, Ernesto Del Valle, Nick Buyse, Michael Faust, and bow Peter Schmidt.
The Vince Vidas boat will be featured in the final race of the day, the men's varsity eight squad, with coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Kyle Fabel, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Timothy Drake, Will Masters, Liam O'Neill, and bow Jacob Sloan.
