Philadelphia – Joe Booth finished his NCAA Tournament run this morning after an extremely close fought 5-3 loss to CAA opponent Jim Resnick of Rider University. Coach Jack Childs also closed out his final nationals appearance as well as his storied 35 year legacy as the face of Drexel wrestling. Session IV takes place tonight at the Wells Fargo Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. with semifinal matches and the fourth and fifth rounds of consolations.
Booth and Resnick finished regulation locked at three a piece while Booth was just three seconds shy of earning the final decision with riding time of 0:57.00. In the first sudden victory over-time period Booth and Resnick tangled in a quick flurry on the mat with Resnick coming out on top earning the take-down and final 5-3 decision to move on in the consolation bracket.
Booth ended the 2010-11 wrestling season with a 25-11 overall record and an 8-2 CAA mark with his only two losses coming in the conference tournament. Booth led all Dragons in win and win percentage this season by earning a career high 25 wins. Booth wrestled up this year at 165 pounds and earned an at large bid into the NCAA Championships to make his second appearance on the national stage. Booth also finished in fourth place at the highly competitive Cliff Keen Invitational held in Las Vegas, Nev.
Jack Child's credentials as head coach rank him on the top of the list with 510 overall wins; the most among all active Div. I wrestling coaches. Childs has coached two NCAA All-Americans, been inducted into numerous Halls of Fame and has helped shape hundreds of young wrestlers into professionals and men.
