Philadelphia - Looking for a quick bounce back after a tough 4-3 loss at Towson yesterday, Drexel women's tennis (6-6, 1-1 CAA) will challenge city rival Saint Joseph's this afternoon in a 3:30 p.m. match. The Hawks are 3-16 overall and have lost 11 of their last 12 matches coming into today's contest.
Freshman Zeynep Mafa continued her excellent play this spring with a win at third singles, her fifth straight dual match victory, against Towson. Gozde Unkaya also won in three sets at first singles to give the Dragons their only two singles points. Mafa and Sonja Stosic teamed up for a win at first doubles against the Tigers and Elise Leizerovich and Emma Brook also won at second doubles to give the team an addition point. But it was not enough as Towson won four of six singles matches to clinch the overall victory.
Casey Robinson has been a bright spot in the Hawks' lineup this season. The sophomore from nearby Radnor, Pa. boasts a 9-6 record at first singles this season and teamed up with Maggie Mullaney for a 5-8 mark in doubles play. Robinson has won seven of her last 10 matches at first singles for the Hawks. Saint Joseph's lost 7-0 to George Washington on Sunday in its last match.
The Saint Joseph's tennis courts are located on the Hawks' City Ave. campus.
