Wrestling to Open CAA Tournament Today at Rider

Lawrenceville, N.J. – Drexel wrestling picks up action at the 2011 CAA conference tournament hosted by Rider University. Quarterfinal matches begin Friday, March 4 in Rider's Alumni Gymnasium at 1:00 p.m. followed by the consolation bracket at 4:00 p.m. then semifinals at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5 begins with the second round of consolation bouts at 10:00 a.m. leading up to the finals at 1:00 p.m.
The CAA will send 17 wrestlers to the NCAA Division I Championships, held this year in Philadelphia's very own Wells Fargo Center schedule to take place Thursday, March 17-19. Drexel is seeded sixth with seven wrestlers in the top five of their respective weight classes. Sophomore Joe Booth holds a No. 1 ranking at 165 pounds while redshirt freshman Brandon Palik and sophomore Jack Callender are both ranked second at 197 pounds and heavy weight respectively.
Booth is 21-7 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference action this season while Palik leads all rookies with 18 wins and a team-high five pins. Callender is second on the team in CAA matches this year going 5-1 while wrestling up at heavy weight. Coach Childs will participate in his last conference tournament in 35 years of coaching in hopes of bringing a number of wrestlers to the national stage at the NCAA Championships.
