Philadelphia - Drexel split singles matches with George Mason, but came up just short in two critical doubles matches that could have swung the match in its favor, instead falling 4-3 to the Patriots. The contest was Dexel's final home match of the season as the Dragons close out regular-season play at Delaware next weekend.
Nikoloz Kurdadze won at first singles after his opponent, Jorge Osuna, retired while trailing 3-0 in the second set. Bryan Nguyen won in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 against Chris Borden at third singles. Freshman Skyler Davis turned in one of the top performances of the day when he took down Steve Hyre in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at sixth singles.
The turning point of the match came at first and third doubles where the Dragons fell in painfully close fashion. Manu Bajpai and Nikoloz Kurdadze fell to Osuna and Jordan Bersanyi in a tiebreaker at first doubles. Mehdi Rhazali and Jeganathan Srinivasan also lost in a tight match at third doubles, 8-6, versus Tyler Sargent and Steve Hyre.
Seniors Manu Bajpai and Mehdi Rhazali were honored in a ceremony prior to the match as part of Senior Day festivities.
