Drexel fell to Rutgers, 1-0, in the season-opener on Monday

The Rutgers women's soccer team scored the game's only goal with just under seven minutes left and held off Drexel in the Dragons' season-opener, 1-0, in Piscataway, N.J.
Rutgers sophomore Jonelle Filigno scored what proved to be the only goal of the game when she headed in a corner in the 38th minute. Julie Lancos took the corner for RU, sending the ball to the near side of the goal. Freshman Amy Pietrangelo then deflected the ball over the Drexel goalkeeper Victoria Troccoli, where Filigno headed it into the net. It was one of just three shots allowed in the first half by the Drexel defense. However, the Dragons could muster only two of their own as the Scarlet Knights took the one goal lead into intermissions.
Drexel had its chances in the second half, with two corner kicks late in the contest, but the Dragons weren't able to get a shot on goal off either attempt. Rutgers ended up outshooting the Dragons, 10-4, in the contest.
Troccoli made one save in goal for the Dragons in the first half. Freshman Eve Badana played in the second half and made four saves in her first collegiate appearance.
The Dragons are back on the road on Friday, but it will be in Philadelphia, as they host La Salle at 7 p.m. Drexel's home opener is Sunday at 3 p.m. against Delaware State.
