Philadelphia – Junior midfielder Amanda Fleischut's first career hat trick led the 18th-ranked Drexel Dragons to a 4-1 victory over the Saint Joseph's Hawks at Buckley Field. Senior midfielder Monica Baick also scored a goal and posted an assist, while teammate Elise DiDonato recorded two assists. Drexel Field Hockey has now won its 15th straight game over a Philadelphia-area school.
Drexel wasted little time and put pressure on the Hawk's early. With just 1:43 into the first half, Fleischut received a pass just inside the stroke from sophomore Elise DiDonato and swept the ball past Saint Joseph's Liz Messaros. A little more than 20 minutes later, DiDonato fed Fleischut another pass putting the Dragons ahead by two goals. The Doylestown, Pa. native scored her third consecutive goal off of a penalty corner.
Senior Monica Baick also scored an unassisted goal at 28:30. Saint Joseph's Therese Doyle scored with less than five minutes remaining in the first. Drexel was up by three goals, 4-1, at the end of the first half and held on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
The Dragons were handed six yellow cards to the Hawk's two. Senior goalkeeper Brooke Underwood played the entire 70 minutes and made a career high of five saves for Drexel.
Drexel returns to action on Monday, August 29 when the Dragons host Fairfield at 3:00 p.m.
