Philadelphia – The Drexel women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play for the first time since joining the league with a 3-1 victory against UNC Wilmington at Vidas Field. Andi Stampone scored a goal and had an assist in the victory.

Drexel (4-4-2) scored first early in the first half. Alyssa Findlay played a ball from the center of the field to the right, where teammate Andi Stampone one-timed the ball into the middle to Jenna Lindsay. Lindsay headed the ball down and fired a shot past UNCW's (2-7, 0-1) Caitlin Hunter. Drexel continued to pressure the Seahawks and controlled most of the half. However, the Seahawks tied the game in the 26th minute. Nicole Costa shot a ball into the box that was deflected by a defender and Stephanie Rose came up with it and scored to even the match at 1-1. The score remained the same until the final minutes of the half. Drexel went ahead in the 43rd minute when Megan Hammaker scored. She was fouled in the box and rewarded with a penalty kick. Her shot was saved by Hunter, but she blasted the rebound home with her left foot. It was one of 16 first-half shots for the Dragons.

UNCW had its best chance to tie the score in the 61st minute. After a Drexel foul, Kim Currie took the free kick from about 40 yards away. She hit the post near the crossbar, narrowly missing the upper corner. Drexel got a much needed insurance goal in the 67th minute. Drexel had Jess Lowinger take a corner kick. On the short corner, she got the ball to Findlay, who went around a defender and fired the ball toward the front of the net, where Stampone headed in the Dragons' third goal of the match.

Drexel outshot the Seahawks, 23-8. Hunter made 10 saves for UNCW before being replaced with just under 16 minutes to play by Chandler Follett, who had one save. Eve Badana was only forced to make one save. Drexel also had eight corner kicks, to just one by the visitors.

Drexel is off until Thursday afternoon. The Dragons visit Hofstra, the defending CAA champions, before returning home for a match on Sunday against Northeastern.
