BOX SCORE
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Jenna Lindsay notched her team-leading fifth goal of the season to give the Drexel women's soccer team a 1-0 lead early in Wednesday afternoon's match at Hofstra, but the Dragons could not keep the pressure on as the Pride responded with two goals to grab the 2-1 decision.
The Dragons broke up the scoreless tie when Alex Vazquez put a perfect long pass on Lindsay's toe near the top of the box. Lindsay got control of the ball, dribbling into the box and firing on Hofstra goalkeeper Kylie Schuster, beating Schuster to give Drexel a 1-0 lead.
Ten minutes later, the situation was reversed. Hofstra's Lulu Echeverry found Laura Greene in front of the net. Greene dribbled her way around the Drexel defense, and found the back of the net to knot the score at one. After enduring a 52-minute lightning delay late in the first half, Greene gave the Pride their final margin of victory early in the second when she took a centering pass from Courtney Breen and fired it home, putting Hofstra up 2-1.
The Dragons kept the pressure up with seven shots following Greene's second goal, three of which tested Schuster. That effort came up short, however, and the Dragons fell for the first time in league play after starting 2-0 in the CAA for the first time in their history.
Drexel returns to action Sunday, when they host Northeastern at 3:00 p.m. at Vidas Field.
