
Drexel Crew Wins Six Gold Medals at Frostbite Regatta

Philadelphia - Drexel University's crew program finished its fall season at the renowned Frostbite Regatta held on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The day was highlighted by six Drexel gold medal performances, including medals from both the top men's and women's varsity eight boats.
The women's varsity eight, in the Marlene Buckley II boat, finished their fall season with a commanding win over West Virginia. The winning shell included coxswain Sarah Messenger, stroke Olivia Babiec, Elizabeth Campanella, Julia Jackson, Samantha Cowan, Kayla Wroblesky, Mollie Cusack, Amanda O'Malley and bow Colleen Delaney. The Dragons finished ahead of Lehigh, Lafayette, George Mason and Philadelphia U.
The women's second varsity eight was also victorious beating crews from Lafayette, Binghamton, West Virginia, La Salle and George Mason. Kerry Walsh coxed the Maria Papadakis boat with teammates Tori King, Alexa Antonioli, Amanda Dargay, Sierra Baca, Amanda Kleuser, Alyssa Leahy, Jayme Batcher and bow Elizabeth Daugherty.
The women continued the streak after placing first in the third varsity eight event. The Marlene Buckley boat featuring coxswain Catherine Hamilton, stroke Meredith Bracken, Bridget Pfeifer, Emily Gartland, Mallory Sykes, Kathie Cheng, Elise Panacek, Barbara McKenna and bow Elise Levito outlasted Loyola, TCNJ, Scranton and La Salle B.
The women's fourth varsity eight raced in the John Daskalakis shell and placed ahead of Scranton for a fifth place finish. Ariana Kaufmann coxed the John Daskalakis boat with stroke Katie Farnsworth, Elisabeth Wagner, Emily Barth, Patience Dodgson, Olivia Carigan, Ashley Liddell, Alicia Hoy and bow Rio Monte.
The women's novice eight placed first in the Marlene Buckley boat consisting of coxswain Rachel Bowan, stroke Rose Ehrlich, Julie McGlynn, Taylor Brady, Rebecca McCool, Megan Raver, Caitlin Bubel, Jordan Marinchak and bow Kate Wilchek. George Mason finished second followed by Lehigh, Philly U, Binghamton, and Layfayette.
The men's varsity eight, in the Lois Krall boat,, finished seven seconds ahead of rival Temple. The shell featured coxswain Diana Fox, stroke Aleksandar Radovic, Vanja Busic, Michael Faust, Ryan Mallgrave, John Pieper, Lorenzo Albala, Kurt Linton and bow Brian McCabe. Drexel crossed the finish line ahead of Delaware, Ithaca, Washington College and Bucknell.
The men's fourth varsity eight boat raced in the Vince Vidas shell and placed fifth. Jacquelyn Durkin coxed stroke, Oleg Gratwick, Paul Wisniowski, Geoff Wittenberg, Jacob Smith, David Leach, Brian Kissam, Mike Aleixo and bow Andrew Weinstein to a time of 7:10 which finished ahead of Scranton.
The men's top junior varsity eight raced, in the Joseph Greipp boat, took second. The Dragons finished before Ithaca, Lafayette, Temple and Bucknell, but clocked in behind rival Delaware. The Joseph Greipp boat featured coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Dean Hill, Milos Rujevic, Marko Durica, Casimir Czworkowski, James Byrne, Jake Murphy, Mahmoud Shurbaji and bow Hartman Byers.
The Dragons capped off their wins with the junior varsity eight 'b' boat defeating opposing crews from Bucknell, La Salle, Maryland, Ithaca and Washington College. Victoria Kenion coxed the Antoinette Pennoni boat along with stroke Timothy Drake, Christian Ladd, David Gockley, Cameron Staines, Ryan McSpedon, Troy Beck, Matt Gehret and Adam Cordi.
The freshmen men's eight, in the Vince Vidas boat, also came in second to the Blue Hens. The boat consisting of coxswain Christopher Henderson, stroke Mikulas Sum, Michael DiLucca, Daniel Palombo, Daniel Dollin, Nicholas Capaldi, Dave Hanrahan, Lawrence Lindawan and bow Daniel Pyle beat crews from Temple, Lehigh and Ithaca.
The men's novice eight 'B' placed in third in front of Ithaca College. Thomas Nguyen coxed the Peggy Greenawalt boat with stroke Paul Bellefleur, Jacob Bond, Bryce Pennie, Dan Carr, Todd Keiser, Alex Knipe, Eric Troilo and bow Leif Malm.
