Men Defeat Binghamton; Women Fall Short at Drexel Pool

Philadelphia - Drexel University's swimming and diving team finished the day with a split result against Binghamton. The men won in the final event,153-146, while the women fell short, 107-182.
The men had an exciting win that came down to the final relay event. Alex Chialastri, Joel Berryman, Mike Krohn and Alex Bagshaw won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:10.44 to help the Dragons defeat the Bearcats. Drexel also won the 200 medley relay that featured Kyle Lukens, Chad Schmidt, Krohn and Bagshaw. Schmidt and Berryman both had a pair of wins to aid in Drexel's success. Berryman clinched the 100 and 200 backstroke events, while Schmidt placed first in the 100 and 200 breaststroke races. Lukens and Krohn both conquered the 100 and 200 butterfly respectively. Chialastri also won the 200 free clocking in at 1:44.26.
Drexel's women fought hard throughout the meet and came out with some strong wins. Lauren Faykes tallied three first place finishes against Binghamton. Faykes stopped the clock at 1:55.87 to take the win in the 200 free followed by top times in the 500 free as well as the 200 IM. Gizem Yali had a solid performance taking first in the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Teammate Brianna Bentz won the 100 free along with the 100 butterfly.
For diving, David Sanchez and Stephen Cal placed second and third in both the men's one and three meter events respectively.
Drexel Swimming and Diving will return to action on Friday, November 16 through November 18 at Rutgers.
