Postgame Interview
Philadelphia, Pa. – Head coach Matt Azevedo guided Drexel wrestling to their first home victory of the 2012-13 season over VMI, 24-14, on Saturday night at the John A. Daskalakis Athletic Center.
The match consisted of many strong performances from the Dragons. While the Keydets jumped out to an early 11-0 lead, a pin at 5:59 from redshirt sophomore Bryan Sternlieb who wrestled at 184 put the Dragons on the board 11-6. Sternlieb was followed by Brandon Palik at 197 who earned a 14-4 major decision over VMI's Urayoan Garcia. Jon Max Wright dropped a close 4-1 decision in the heavyweight division, which gave VMI a 14-10 lead, but teammate Jacob Goodwin followed up with a 19-5 major decision at 125 to tie the score on the day at 14.
Frank Cimato (141) earned a 10-2 major decision, while Clayton Lutzow (133) and Shane Fenningham (149) both had wins in their respective bouts to round out the day and secure a Dragons' victory.
Drexel returns to the mats tomorrow as they host Hofstra at the DAC at 4 p.m.
