Philadelphia - Sophomore guard Damion Lee recorded a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds as the Dragons defeated Davidson, 69-58, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons improved to 4-7 overall, while the Wildcats drop to 6-5 on the season.
The Dragons went on an 8-0 run early in the game to turn a 12-9 deficit into a 17-12 advantage. The Wildcats would not lead again, although the outcome was in doubt in the closing minutes. The Dragons led by as many as 12 in the second half after Lee drained one of his two three-pointers to make it 52-40 at the 10:46 mark. That would be the last point the Dragons would score for a span of 6:23. The Wildcats were able to score eight straight points to cut the deficit to just four points with a little more than six minutes left in the game.
Davidson could get no closer than four the rest of the way as Drexel answered the visitors challenge. The Dragons wrapped up the game at the line, making all six of their free throws in the final minute to pick up their first home win of the year.
Drexel won the game on the boards, dominating the Wildcats, 40-14. In addition to Lee's 11 boards, Daryl McCoy had nine and Dartaye Ruffin added six. Frantz Massenat chipped in with 14 points and six assists for the Dragons. Drexel shot 49 percent and held the Wildcats to under 60 points for the first time this season.
De'Mon Brooks scored 16 points to pace Davidson. Local product Jake Cohen added 10, as did Nik Cochran.
The Dragons are off until New Year's Eve, when the Saint Joseph's Hawks come to the DAC. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
