Drexel Crew Dominated the 2012 Kerr Cup Regatta

Philadelphia – Drexel Crew captured seven gold medals at the 46th annual Kerr Cup Regatta hosted by the Dragons on the Schuylkill River. The men's varsity eight won the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup for the second consecutive year. The men also took first place in the freshmen eight and pair event. The women's varsity eight won the Lela Kerr Cup for the third year in a row. The women's second varsity eight, novice eight and freshmen four crossed the finish line first for Drexel. Both the men's and women's teams collected the most points out of 11 participating crews.
The men's varsity eight, in the Lois Krall boat, stopped the clock at 6:27.1 in the final event to claim the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup. The men's second varsity eight started out in the lead, but finished second with a time of 6:35.5. The varsity eight boat featured coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Paul Wisniowski, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Michael Faust and bow Will Masters. La Salle came in third followed by Villanova, Fordham and Penn State.
The men's freshmen eight posted a first place with a time of 6:39.4 ahead of Penn State. Victoria Kenion will cox the Vince Vidas boat with stroke Dean Hill, Brian McCabe, Hartman Byers, Cameron Staines, James Byrne, Casimir Czworkowski, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Christian Ladd. The Nittany Lions clocked in at 6:58.8 for second place. Villanova took third followed by Fordham, La Salle and Penn State respectively.
The men's pair, in the Katherine M.L. Buckley boat, dominated along the entire stretch finishing boats lengths ahead of La Salle. Pete Eyrich and Adam Cordi crossed the finish line at 8:24.5 followed by the Explorers at 8:39.7. Washington College earned third place followed by Penn State, Loyola and Philly U.
On the women's side, the varsity eight boat won its third Lela Kerr Cup with a first-place time of 7:28.7. Alex Paulin coxed the Marlene Buckley II boat with stroke Elizabeth Bratton, Emily Coyle, Sierra Baca, Alexa Antonioli, Julia Jackson, Asiya Mahmud, Mollie Cusack and bow Elizabeth Daugherty past runner-up La Salle. The Explorers clocked in at 7:51.8 followed by Fordham, College of NJ and Philly U respectively.
The women's second varsity eight had solid speed throughout the event crossing the finish line first at 7:31.2. Fordham came in second with a time of 7:56.1. The winning Maria Papadakis boat included coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Jackie Bender, Elizabeth Campanella, Juliana DeMarici, Samantha Cowan, Amanda O'Malley, Alyssa Leahy, Amanda Dargay and bow Brooke Wertan.
The women's novice eight stopped the clock first with a time of 7:59.9 ahead of Villanova. The Wildcats earned second place with a time of 8:17.6. The Marlene Buckley boat featured coxswain Catherine Hamilton, stroke Meredith Bracken, Emily Gartland, Olivia Babiec, Bridget Pfeifer, Amanda Kleuser, Joy Yingling, Jayme Batcher and bow Elise Levito.
The women's freshmen four won gold with a time of 9:12.8. The Dragons outlasted second-place Loyola, Villanova, La Salle and College of NJ respectively. The winning Sandra Lee Sheller boat included coxswain Catherine Hamilton, stroke Meredith Bracken, Emily Gartland, Olivia Babiec and bow Bridget Pfeifer.
