Drexel Crew to Compete in the 74th Annual Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta

Philadelphia – Drexel Crew will take the water for the 74th annual Aberdeen Dad Vail regatta on Philadelphia's Schuylkill River. Director of Rowing Paul Savell will send six men's and five women's boats to race in the opening heats on Friday, May 11 before Saturday's semi-finals and finals. The Dragons will face over 120 universities and colleges from North America and Canada all vying for first place in the grand finals at the nation's biggest collegiate rowing event.
At 7:48 a.m., the men's varsity four will kick off action for the Dragons in lane six. The Lebow College of Business boat will consist of coxswain Jacquelyn Durkin, stroke Filip Topalovic, Milos Rujevic, Nick Buyse and bow Brian Kissam. Drexel will face Fairfield, Lehigh, Vermont, Merchant Marine and Wheaton. The top two finishers will advance to the semi-finals on Saturday morning.
The men's varsity pair, in the Katherine M.L. Buckley, will race at 9:36 a.m. from lane two. Drexel's Adam Cordi and Pete Eyrich will race against New York University, Temple, Lafayette and College of New Jersey. The top-two times will land a spot in the semi-finals.
At 10:54 a.m., the fourth-seeded men's varsity eight boat will take lane three in the newly named Louis Krall boat. The shell will include coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Kurt Linton, Paul Wisniowski, Aleksandar Radovic, Lorenzo Albala, Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, Michael Faust and bow Will Masters. The Dragons will take the water along with Ohio University, Albany, Georgia Tech and Lehigh. The top three fastest boats will secure a spot in the semi-finals.
The men's novice four will race at 2:24 p.m. in lane three. Diana Fox will cox the Tobey & Kim Oxholm boat with stroke David Gockley, Mahmoud Shurbaji, James Byrne and bow Matt Gehret. Drexel will compete against Connecticut University, Rutgers-Camden, Western Ontario, William & Mary and Army. The top two finishers will advance to the semi-finals.
At 4:27 p.m., the top-seeded men's novice eight will race from lane three in the Peggy Greenawalt boat. The shell will consist of coxswain Victoria Kenion, stroke Dean Hill, Brian McCabe, Hartman Byers, Jake Murphy, Christian Ladd, Casimir Czworkowski, Grigorios Papadourakis and bow Cameron Staines. Drexel will take on Liberty, Connecticut University, Brock and Minnesota. The top three boats will move on to the semi-finals.
The fourth-ranked men's second varsity eight will complete their heat on Saturday at 10:12 a.m. from lane four. Marc Smith will cox the Annette Pennoni boat with stroke John Pieper, Marcus DeMarici, Martin Khait, Brian Timlin, Kevin Rorabaugh, Ryan Mallgrave, Timothy Drake and bow Patrick McGann. The Dragons will race Temple, Michigan University and Purdue. The top three times will advance straight to the finals.
On the women's side, the varsity four will begin racing at 8:36 a.m. from lane two. The Sandra Lee Sheller boat will consists of coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Amanda Dargay, Elise Panacek, Jillian Skovran and bow Kathy Cheng. The Dragons will face Army, Buffalo, George Mason and Schenectady. Only the top two boats will advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon.

Brooke Wertan and Barbara McKenna will compete against crews from Sacred Heart, Washington University, Rutgers-Camden, Tampa and Loyola. The top two finishers will move on to the semi-finals on Saturday morning.
The ninth-ranked women's varsity eight boat is scheduled to race at 11:48 a.m. in lane four. Alex Paulin will cox the Marlene Buckley II boat with stroke Julia Jackson, Elizabeth Daugherty, Mollie Cusack, Samantha Cowan, Elizabeth Bratton, Emily Coyle, Sierra Baca and bow Alexa Antonioli. Drexel will race against Florida University, Eastern Michigan, Grand Valley, Villanova and Georgia Tech. The two fastest times will land a spot in the semi-finals and the balance to the repechage.

The Dragons will face Ohio University, Army, Brock and Villanova. The top four finishers will secure a spot in the semi-finals.

The newly named Maria Papadakis boat will consist of coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Jackie Bender, Elizabeth Campanella, Juliana DeMarici, Mallory Sykes, Amanda O'Malley, Alyssa Leahy, Asiya Mahmud and bow Colleen Delaney. The Dragons will take on Marist, Temple, Saint Joseph's, Old Dominion and La Salle. Only the top two times will advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon.
