PHILADELPHIA - Former Drexel standout Frank Elegar has been selected to join Team Philly as part of a two-day Philly-DC showcase event sponsored by the Basketball Alumni Legends League (The-BALL). The summertime professional hoops league which caters to college basketball fanatics will hold the games on August 4 and 5.
The new league is designed to feature former college standouts from the local universities, giving the teams instant star power and a built-in fan base. The-BALL, which will officially get underway during the 2013 summer season, will be run from June to August filling a void for basketball fans and giving top players a high-quality professional hoops alternative during their off-season break from the NBA D-League or international competition.
The-BALL is for those players that haven't landed in the NBA but still have a loyal following in the cities where they made a name for themselves while playing at the collegiate level.
Elegar, a Second Team All-CAA pick and All-Defensive team selection during his senior season of 2007-08, led the Dragons in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots as a senior. Elegar was also a Second Team All-CAA pick as a junior. During his final season, Elegar scored 20 points in a game nine times and recorded nine double-doubles, including a 33-point, 17-rebound performance against Delaware. Elegar finished his career in the Drexel top-15 in both points (1,285) and rebounds (676).
The-BALL will hold its Showcase games at the Charles E. Smith Center on the campus of George Washington University on Aug. 4 and at Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph's University Aug. 5. For tickets, click here.
